Production steps for extracting ashwagandha (Complete process)
Step-1: Harvesting of ashwagandha roots
The crop is harvested for roots from January to March, approximately 150 to 180 days after sowing. At the time of harvesting, the soil should be moist. Using a plough/plow tiller or a country plough, roots are dug out or ploughed.
The taproot should be carefully removed, taking care not to damage the lateral roots. Harvesting the roots before the first frost is another alternative. Dig each root carefully and dust off the soil lightly.

Step-2: Ashwagandha roots are dried in the sunlight
The ashwagandha roots which are harvested are now dusted off and is been soaked in the water so that the extra dust and soil particles could be removed.
After that, the roots are dried in the sunlight so that the wetness could be dried and moisture could be removed from the roots.
Making the roots sun-dried is an important step because when it is soaked in water, the water molecules go inside the roots which makes the roots completely wet that’s why this step should be followed strictly.
Step-3: Batch testing of ashwagandha roots
The ashwagandha roots which are been dried are now ready for testing.
Testing these roots is very important as the roots may contain some chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides which have their own purposes as they do not allow insects and pests to harm the roots of ashwagandha. But testing is important to choose the right type and quality of roots.
A batch testing is done of the roots and it is tested properly whether chemicals have been used or not.
Step-4: Ashwagandha roots are then cleaned with water
The chemicals are been tested and the roots are again been washed and cleaned with water properly, as it is the last time of cleaning the full roots.
They are washed and cleaned thoroughly and is been arranged in big trays.
Step-5: The roots are then dried by a drier machine
Removing moisture again from the roots is important and the importance is been discussed in the second step.
Making them dry in sunlight takes a little more time than making them dry in machines and that is why they are put in the trays and placed in the dryer machines.
Many trays are placed together as it saves time and electricity at the same time. The wetness of the roots is removed and moisture is also been dried with the help of machines.
Step-6: Ashwagandha roots are now shifted in pulverizing machine
Pulverizing machine is used to convert ashwagandha roots into powdered form.
The machines have some strips and grinding options inside them which convert the roots into the powder easily and quickly.
Step-7: Ashwagandha roots are now in powder form
With the help of pulverizing machines the roots are grind and converted into a very fine powder that is ready to process.
The fine particles which are been derived from ashwagandha roots are just powder and not an extract.
The ashwagandha powder is now ready for the next step, also the conversion of roots into powder is a very important step to move forward.
Step-8: Ashwagandha powder is soaked in water for 8 hours
The ashwagandha powder is soaked in water for continues 8 hours in the tanks. This process makes the fermentation process easy and quick.
Also, the ashwagandha powder gets dissolved in the water and gets wet properly, and gets mixed with water.
This is the first treatment of ashwagandha roots powder which is treated with water.
Step-9: To make milk treated ashwagandha extract
This step includes the method in which the ashwagandha powder is treated with milk to make ashwagandha extract.
The extracts can be made by treatment with many products like oil, water, and many more but milk is the best suitable compound and in this method, the powder of ashwagandha is treated with pure milk to make proper ashwagandha extract.
Step-10: ashwagandha is mixed with milk properly

Step-13: Ashwagandha is in the solid form now (Solidified)
When moisture is removed from something it always converts into solid form and the same goes with this as well.
Ashwagandha changes its form into solid after removing the moisture from it, which means that it needs to be converted into fine powder again, but now when it is treated with two liquids i.e. water and milk so it is not powder anymore and now it is about to convert into a proper extract which will be called as “fermented ashwagandha extract”.
Step-14: Ashwagandha is shifted to pulverized machines
This is the second last process which is very much important for making “fermented ashwagandha extract”.
In this production process of ashwagandha extract making the solidified ashwagandha is shifted to the pulverized machines for converting it into fine powder.
The solidified ashwagandha extract converts into powder with the help of the grinding process which is in the machine.

Step-15: Taddaa! Finally, we get the ashwagandha extract in powder form
